Moment House is conceived as a contemporary live–work residence that prioritizes openness and retreat. The design emphasizes fluid connections between spaces while maintaining distinct zones for privacy and contemplation. The project was created by reusing the foundation of the existing house and minimizing the impact on the land by preserving the existing tree canopy. Moment House was named due to the extensive use of moment resistant wood laminated frames used to allow one space to flow into another, letting windows disappear behind ceilings, and openings in the floor that connect the communal spaces vertically. Cantilevers are used to provide escape: a reading niche perched above a double height living room and the master bath hanging in between the trees. This concept coupled with the connection to nature allows for memorable moments to be created throughout.
