Living Learning Center + Dormitory

2019

Washington DC, US

The world’s leading institution for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, commissioned a four-year campus plan update to guide near-term development and improve campus experience. The University's planning process included a comprehensive evaluation of all campus buildings, focusing on facility condition, program needs, and long-term campus priorities. The master plan emphasized three key areas essential to student life: residential housing, library and study spaces, and dining facilities. From this analysis, five buildings were identified for potential development or renovation. Two projects advanced into design. The first is a 152,000 SF library and residence hall , providing modern, accessible living learning that supports the university’s visually oriented campus culture. The second is a 42,000 SF renovation of an existing dorm, updating spaces to improve accessibility, building systems, and community areas.
