Council on Foreign Relations

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a globally respected think tank known for hosting influential foreign leaders, current and past presidents commissioned a new flagship headquarters and conference center in Washington, DC. Collaborating closely with then CFR head Dr. Richard Haass, the design team delivered an 84,000 SF, 10-story facility that reflects CFR’s enduring legacy and forward-looking mission. The space includes convertible conference rooms with operable “Skyfold” partitions seating up to 200, a boardroom, lobby, café, full catering kitchen, pre-function and event areas, executive offices, and a integrated media suite with video broadcasting, podcasting, translation booths, and control rooms. Custom millwork conceals advanced AV infrastructure, including edgeless video displays, operable lighting, and a flexible proscenium. The team provided comprehensive services—architecture, interior design, space planning, lighting, furniture specification, and audiovisual design from needs assessment through commissioning. Originally designed by KOr.10, the project underwent a major renovation in 2014, earning multiple design awards.
